PARK MODEL vs. NON-PARK MODEL

At B&B Micro Manufacturing all of our tiny structures on wheels are backed by the RVIA (Recreational Vehicle Industry Association). This provides our clients comfort knowing they are getting a professional product that can act just as a recreational vehicle can. Additionally, due to the mobility of our structures, they must also follow the Federal Highway Administration’s existing road requirements. Just like semi-trucks, RV’s must ensure they can clear all the overpasses they come in contact with and that they remain within the existing lane widths. “The RV Industry Association supports amending state laws to consistently describe the maximum size of a travel trailer as 400 square feet in the set-up mode. ……. The RV Industry Association supports a maximum length of 45 feet for a motorhome, a maximum allowable width of 102 inches plus up to six inches additional for appurtenances for all RVs, and a maximum RV combination length of 65 feet.” (RVIA)

NON-PARK MODEL

8’6″

If our clients want a structure that can travel anywhere at any time, it must remain within 8’6” of width. This is for the obvious reason of road lane widths which range anywhere from 10-12’. In order for your structure to travel on all federal roads with ease, the design must remain within this 8’6” restriction. (For reference, the average width of a personal sedan is between 6’-7’).

PARK MODEL

8’7″ – 12′

If 8’6” isn’t going to cut it for your project, there is the Park Model option. Allowing you to design up to 12’ in width. The extra width is game-changing for architects and designers, but you must also take into account the loss of mobility and flexibility that comes along with such a decision. When you have a vehicle over 8’6″ in width you must obtain a permit for any transportation on public roads in each state that is being traveled through. At B&B Micro Manufacturing we always recommend using a professional to move/relocate any park model.

“On July 1, 2012, RVIA created a new membership category for manufacturers of park model RVs (PMRVs). A park model RV (also known as a recreational park trailer) is a trailer-type RV that is designed to provide temporary accommodation for recreation, camping or seasonal use. PMRVs are built on a single chassis, mounted on wheels and have a gross trailer area not exceeding 400 square feet in the set -up mode. They are certified by their manufacturers as complying with the ANSI A119.5 standard for recreational park trailers.” (Elainelw, 2015)
